Day 0 | Getting ready to ride

Ferry to Vancouver Island, the start of our ride
Two sets of Jorgensens | (left to right) Alexander, Lars, Lone, William, Lars, Kirsten, Lise

Kirsten’s Notes:

After 12 days just the 2 of us driving across the country, my mom and I met up with not one but TWO Lars Jorgensens: my father and my father’s cousin. The Danish Canadian Jorgensens greeted us with open arms and a consistent stream of home-cooked pizza, “black and windy’s” (their version of dark and stormies) and familial fireside chats; first generation American Lars flew in.

Today we unpacked and reassembled the bikes that have been hidden away in the car and started having the reality of the adventure we were about to embark on sink in. Up until now biking an average of 60 miles 6 days a week for 5 weeks was just a concept, something we’d been planning for and talking about for months, and now it’s here! Dad is psyched through and through; I’m daunted but eagerly anticipate seeing where the road takes us and soaking in gorgeous coastal landscapes with both of my parents. Most of you reading this know his energy is contagious so it’s hard to imagine I’d be anything but psyched the moment rubber hits road in the morning. Stay tuned!
